Final Blog Post

It has finally arrived it is our last few weeks as being a senior and not a college "freshman". So excited I do not know what to do. St. Johns is my next step with a major in sports management. Now let’s imagine here its coming to the end of the first college year. It time to reflect on some if the things I went through. It was fun believe that all the parties and social events. However, I am missing a lot of things from home. My family is most important though they get on my nerves I still am used to looking at them daily. My friend’s awe may no longer with them every weekend. The boos and babes that I have. I will miss them. People taking my stress away now I have to find another stress reliever.
The blog posts are something I will not mind leaving in the past. I have to do posts for two classes and I have to say that this is why my grades are a little low. It is kind of a superfluous task in my eyes. I do not like busy work a huge pet peeve and I feel like this is one of them. However, I did like some posts that I posted but my favorite I would have to say is the one about the Tea Cup Yorkie. I say this because many people are ignorant to the subject and everybody loves those types of dogs but do not really know how long they last or the health conditions they have. It is a much ignored subject. Many people want to charge people especially Michael Vick but not all the thousands of rich people who claim to have a Tea Cup because they do not want to sincerely take care of their dogs.
I am very proficient when it comes to the media. I will kindly advocate for people to have access in their states however I will not make it a priority. This class is all about technology. In contrast, not everyone has the power to use it. In the senior’s last class we talked about digital divide. The main issue with this topic is the age and availability. My mom and grandparents are very up to date with technology for some odd reason. I do not agree with the fact that they put technology in only the eastern part of the U.S. There should be methods in place to spread access but not right now due to the budget and the many layoffs. I think the way one describes this class is very important. We do need to be literate to the social media. Everything is based off this new way off communication now-a-days. If they are to attack us we are still able to live on technology.  It is also very important because soon we will just run off of technology and anyone who is not prepared will be left behind.

Digital Divide

Immigrants or Natives which one are you? That is a very good question to ask oneself. Many people would say immigrants if you were born before the 80s. Many peoples grandparents do not know how to work technology today. They have a problem with computers as well as cell phones. Though age might be a problem a bigger problem is access.

In class we spoke about rural areas vs. urban. Many rural areas do not have access to technology. This is a huge problem for America. A lot of things are accessed through the internet such as college and job applications. The people in the rural areas are not accessible to such things.

We read about a young man who had to download each page he had to use at home. His mother did not believe in using the internet because she was not able to utilize it and they would have made her pay $70/m for a connection that could not be reached. This is a figth for the country many people believe it should be a right however I do no think so. It is a problem but U.S. has many other issues that they need to face before tackling this one.

Cyber Warfare

The world has found many ways to attack their enemy. But cyber warfare. This is truly showing the growth of technology. Many people agree that this will be the next step when it comes to terrorism. In class we discussed the possibilities and actions of such warfare. Their is a big proportion of people in this country let alone the world that relies on technology. Any attack on our system will destroy this country.

In class we also watched a video. The video basically spoke upon how vulnerable United States would be upon attack. The man who used to be ahead of technology for the country spoke upon the different ways people could get in our system. I feel like that was very stupid on his part because he is giving other countries the go ahead in where and how to attack the U.S.

We also watched a video that discusses how we have already been attacked. Another man spoke upon how they took a whole library of Congress of information away from us. This shows how weak the country is from a standpoint. In addition to that, our school lost power for a couple of hours which affected us greatly and if technology affected a school that much for that 2 or 3 hours it will definitely affect the country if someone decided to attack us through technology.

File Sharing

Everyone at one point in time download music illegally from the Internet. No one would have ever thought that the United States would crack down on such actions. Well they did. They are suing the owner of LimeWire, Mark Gorton for $75 trillion. That is a lot of money however, the owner is not a some poor man living in this country. He has over a $1 million real estate.

Lets take it back a few years ago. They had asked him for years to come in partnership with the 13 record labels he was ripping off. He refused that offer and he hired a lawyer Cohen to defend his agreements. Cohen tried to advise him on taking the deal but he still refused the offer. Years alter he was sued for the big amount of money. One may feel sorry for him but he knew the risk of getting caught when he first signed up for the illegal act.
We all understand that he was suppose to be a an example to the rest of the file sharing companies. However, there are still many websites that let people download music free and illegally. So what did the judge succeed on? I believe that they will always be a way to download music illegally and no one will truly be able to put a stop to it.

Osama Bin Laden

The United States killed Osama a few weeks ago. This is the man that killed over 2,000 people during the terrorist attack September 11, 2001. They invaded his house in Pakistan where he was hiding in a mansion. The military killed him and others in this process however, no American troops were injured.

Now many Americans are acting very ignorant to the whole matter. They were out celebrating his death in the streets everywhere. Not recognizing that they are committing the same act that the Al Qaeda did when the killed the Americans. People do not understand that the lack of sympathy is only going to make their attack worse. Though America has stopped many attacks from them now does not mean that they will not get wiser in their attacks.

Obama is in a very happy stage at this point.  This was one of his biggest promises he had during his elections. This will put him back into the race for his reelection. In his speech he spoke about the reassuring of his duties and how he fulfilled his promise. He also spoke upon the the uniting of the American people and to be on guard but he does inform the U.S. that he has things under control.

However, some people are just not satisfied with peoples word. They want evidence of his body along with other things. Though they have provided the truth through the DNA Americans want pictures. This information is something that the government refuse to disclose and I agree with their decision. People need to put some type of trust in Obama and the government.

Kyocera Echo

People are always looking for the next big thing in technology. Well bloggers I have found it. The new Sprint Kyocera Echo. This phone is advertised slightly but will later be available on the Sprint network later in the spring. The phone will cost $199.99 with a two-year contract. It is a dual screen phone. One screen of the phone comes up to 3.5 inch and when you put it together it adds up to an 4.7 inch screen. It has a 5- megapixel camera and a 720HD video camera.
This phone comes in four different modes. They are standard, tablet, optimized, and simultasking. In the standard mode in works as a regular touch screen phone would in the tablet mode lets one view app and other things on both screens. In optimized mode one is able to view an app on one screen and go more in depth on another screen. Simultasking does the same however, more advance using two apps on the same screen. This mode is only available for the seven main apps that come wit any phone.

There are several concerns with the phone such as the battery life. It lasts up to 5 hours however Sprint provides the buyer with two batteries and a charger. Believe you will run out of room doubt it. They install an 1GB internal memory and provide an 8GB memory card with the device. They however, have comprimised the 4G availabilty due to they wanted to keep the cost down. There are still questions arousing. What is the warranty on this particular phone? How fluent is the web and app life? Lastly, can the screens be easily broken?

Anti-Bullying

Bulling has been occurring for decades. Many people have ignored or have excused children behavior when it comes to this subject. Obama has decided to start an anti-bullying campaign to stop this type of behavior. In his conference he had in his first address to the situation he speaks on how he used to be bullied while he was in school due to his name and his ears. First lady Michelle Obama, stated the concerns of such behavior from a parents perspective.  They also address the parents who children committed suicide because of bullies. Many organizations have been formed to prevent these issues within the schools.

Another article stated that many homosexuals were being bullied due to their sexuality. The article shows the statistics of  the various forms of bullying that has occurred towards homosexuals. Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall, speaks upon the little action that is taken to prevent this type of bullying to continue in the schools. Many schools have not addressed this situation was due to Section 28 in the government policy to ban promotion of homosexuality actions in the school. However, this section was repealed in 2003. One of the many young men that committed suicide due to his sexual orientation was Justin Aaberg in Andover, Minn. He was 15 and found hanged after being victimized for the last time. However, the most famous cases of suicide was committed by Tyler Clementi, He was a freshman at Rutgers University. After being exposed of his sexuality through the leaking of a adult tape he jumped off the George Washington bridge on September 22, 2010.

Ezine Articles have provided all of the following statistics;  over 75% of high school students are bullied through the internet. 20% of students have admitted to being a bully or participating in similar activities. 100,00 of the bully victims have brought guns to school for protection. 28% of the gun holding population have seen/witness violence action in their own household.  Many homicides dealing with high school students occur due to the retaliation of being bullied.  The top 5 states that these statistics come from are New York, Illinois, California, Pennsylvania, and Washington. Obama is trying to find multiple methods and ways for all the percentages in this statistic goes down drastically. He is able to be a spokesperson/inspiration for people who are victims of this matter due to the fact that he is opening up and sharing his stories with the country.

A few ways that schools can prevent bullying period is for people to speak out against it teachers and students. Do not let it be watered down to horseplay. One way people can prevent gay bullying is by taking action as well. especially since Section 28 was repealed and gave homosexuals the same rights as heterosexuals.

Wikipedia

I read two articles about Wikipedia. One of the articles were pro the other was a con.

For the fist article was a pro. It focused more so on college students and professors at Lake Land. Many professors do not have a problem with Wikipedia because it is a start. However, they state that the students need to do further research. Many colleges still do not allow Wikipedia as a creditable source. Mattoon Lake Land.

The other article opposing Wikipedia continuously pulled out the biases of Wikipedia. It breaks down the different examples of the biases about the website. It even takes it back to the contributors and the way they handle the work on the site. It also towards the end give suggestions on how it should change its contributors and the way the network show now act.

I personally agree with the use of Wikipedia due to the fact that the term "wiki" alone mean quick so that mean that it is a start or a simple summary of the topic that one is interested on. It is the researches job to go deeper and use more than one source to get accurate information.

Response to Managing Social Network

The solution that best fits me with managing my social network is being on the phone. I actually did that during the 7 days of no Facebook. I do it a lot more now then i used to. Also texting helps me forget about social network websites because he people i text are the people I would go look on the statuses to see what they are doing. Removing the cell phone apps would no work. one because I do no know how to do that. But, I also do not want to. It makes my phone unique and just because it is on there does not mean I have to use it, that is where self control comes in. I believe the best solution for others is self control. Many people lack that as was shown in class when asked who went on Facebook. It takes time to gin full self control but it would help people with the addition. I do not believe that i have any addiction to any website. If I have an addiction it is to texting. I do not really get on websites unless its to play a game I probably will net year because all my close friends will be away. It isn't that interesting and it can also get people in a lot of drama. Especially with he/she say that is the downfall of this generation.

NO Facebook!

I do not think that not being able to get on Facebook for a week will be hard. I really do not get on there now. i will be able to go through with it and not panic about it. A lot of our classmates were really upset but it might be a good time for me to catch up with my school work since I am a senior we have limited days left to get our things in order. I can also get more connected with Twitter since that seems to be the hottest new thing. Plus i have  a friend stream app on my phone that lets me see what friends are doing on Facebook and Twitter so i will survive.

Tunisia Prine MInister Resigns

Now for a while the United States have been following the stories of uprising in the Middle East. The prime minister Mohammed Ghannouchi stepped down on Sunday at the Casbah Square. He stepped dodwn due to the fact that he was unable to fullfil his needs in that position. Also he supported the president that they overthrew. The president was accused of oppression and corruption of the government. While presenting his speech on national television one could hear the cheers and praise of the citizens.

File:Mohamed Ghannouchi.jpgDuring the speech little police were there. The army had little groups of people in front of government buildings but they did not do too much action towards the citizens. However, the citizens did not stop antagonizing them. On the other side there was more uncivilized action. Many citizens begging for fights.

Many people still believe that protests will still continue. People want democracy and they will not stop to get it. They want all ministers from the presidents cabinet to resign and they will make it happen by any means. The governement has 60 days to have a reelection. The date is to be held on July 15. The government will have alot of work to do to get everything on track, to make up for the loss of the prime minister.

Trip to Ruby Tuesday!

So this weekend I went to Ruby Tuesday with my friend. This is my favorite restaurant little did she know. The food in there is jsut so delicious. I went to the one at Gallery Place. It was definitely crowded however the service was moving swiftly. While waiting for our seats the host had no problems keeping us entertained.

Now lets talk about the struggle I had to go through to get their. First, I had a family event to go to that took longer than expected. Then I came home to change my clothes but my mother left out and I needed some money becuase I do not like to be broke. After that the train runs slow on Saturday it was a 15 minute wait and then the train kept stopping because it was a delay.

I had alot of fun on the outing. I got to know my friend on a better level. We talked about many things. The food was so good. I ordered shrimp alfredo and my strawberry lemonade. The people at the retaurant were crazy but it was funny. After we ate we headed home because I had to go see my family.

The Internet

The internet is growing everyday. The process of this system is very remarkable. The steps it is just for one click is rigorous but many people do not pay attention to that. The internet keeps the world connected. For example Facebook shares commonality between people in the United States to China for example. The internet changes everyday. I feel like soon something will out do the internet as a whole. It is connected to many servers. The process is truly remarkable about sorting information and being able to pull up the corect information for the correct website.

Betty Crocker Mhmm Delicious!

Just thinking of Betty Crocker makes my mouth water. I am the one people come to for cakes. That is my specialty. Betty Crocker has had a big impact on that. First off the company supplies me with my ingredients and recipes. Secondly the way they reach out is good. They are good for charity events though it is not mentioned.

I always wanted to be a pastry chef since my high school career. The way I feel when mixing up the ingredients really helps with my stress level. I also like the peoples feedback. Most of it is pleasing but I can take some criticism for the next time. I usually make my fmailies birthday cakes. It saves us money and it gives me practice to try new things.

Being a pastry chef is not somethign that one hears everday. Many people want to be a lawyer and apart of me wants to be but my passion is with baking. I want to merge them together. Become a lawyer and have a bakery. Hopefully I can own my own company and sell some of my products in the cafeteria. I just love the thoughgt of baking and the msils of people faces. One will never see a sad face when you think of Bria's cakes.

Netflix!

Want to go to the movies? Umm no thank you, I have Netflix. What is that? One of the most successful DVD rentals online in the United States. It was formed in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in California. In 1999 the company had to go back to the drawing board due to lack of sales. Since 2003 it has had 1 million movies from all categories of entertainment.

How does one get these DVDs? Well first you have to go onthe website and create an account. After creating an account they give you a month of free trial but after that you pay $19.95/m. Once you get an account you make pick as many movies you like however, you will only recieve upto 3 DVDs per session that are available from your desired list. You cannot get another set of DVDS until they are returned back to the company. The best part about that is that there is no late fee.
Netflix is going to progress within this decade alone. However, it still has many competitors and they are trying their hardest to make Netflix go into bankruptcy. But one thing Netflix has over them is the no late fee. It is impossible for Block Buster not to have one due to the fact that their stock is way lower than Netflix. This company is available online and with the new technology you cna get the ineternet from anywhere.

New Zodiac Sign 2011!

Now everyone know that the world goes through changes 24/7. But, who would ever thought that it would be a new zodiac sign. The new sign is Ophiuchus. This sign covers November 29- December 17. This became effective this year. The reason for this new sign is because of the alighnment of the stars were pushed by a month. Approximately 31% of Americans live their life by thier birth zodiac sign. This new sign is going to bring out many issues.

Many people are already claiming that they are not changing their sign. Not realizing that this does not go itno affect unless you were born in 2011. The next generation is already different and they are not even deeply established. Parents refuse to accept this new sign. Amercians are arguing about htis sign and trying many methods to prove this statement wrong.

"The constellation Ophiuchus represents a man wrestling a serpent, dividing the snake's body in two parts.  It is the only sign of the zodiac linked to real men, sharing traits with Imhotep, a 27th century BCE Egyptian doctor, and biblical Joseph" said by Time. Ophiuchus is the healer of man and doctor of medicine and science. He seems to be like the ulitmate ale figure people strive to be today. This sign is still new adn ts trait could be changed daily so nothing is set in stone other than the dates in which this sign lies.

Our First Senior Trip!

Today we went to a law firm by the name of Hogan Lovells to discuss our future. I had the opportunity to introduce myself to the three lawyers that were assigned to my group. On this field trip they provided us with lunch. For lunch we had pizza, salad, and cookies. We were split up into two groups and put into different rooms. As we were eating we dicsussed the college life and the transition from high school to college.

We were able to ask questions and the first questioned I asked was how to not stress over the pressure of the career your parents pressure you into doing over your desired passion. The lawyers told me to do what will make me happy because it is better to be broke and happy then successful and very depressed in shorter words. Theyalso answered many questions. One question that I like was said by Markus Batchelor he asked whether he should stay in DC for politics because he was scared he was going to lose out on the know of DC life. Both lawyers basicallly explained to him that DC will not have a significant change within 4 years and how you leaving can bring into new perspectives of how DC should run. TThey asked us about the college process and our senior year and we explained to them that it is less stressful right now because we had to do many applications in the beginning of the year due to Senior Seminar. Senior is still stressful but i feel that it would be more stressed if we were still doing applications and all of these projects.

I really liked our lunch with the lawyers. I was a litle skeptical about what was going to happen or how people were going to act. but this proves again that one should not judge a book by its cover and do not come into anything with an already set perception of what the experience would be like.

I Just Love Yorkies!

I had a conversation with my friend the other day about the type ofo pets we want to have when we grow up. My first answer was a yorkie . I think they are so pretty and unique because of their size. The funny part is, is that they are small but they cost alot. They are not really dogs that you can play many sports with. They are house. They do not grow more than about 4 lbs. if they are smaller than that then they a prone to having health issues. They have very fragile body structures so one is not to be too rough with it. It is basically a dog that is for show.

Let me give a little history about this beautiful dog. The dog "yorkie" is mainly a high spirited proud yorkie. However, these dogs are just the opposite. They are more so a premature yorkie. They do not have the proper size for a mouth so they loose teeth and troubles eating. Some can die due to the issues of regulating their blood sugar. The adult and mature size for a yorkie is 4-7 lbs. The term "teacup" came from owners who did not take care of their dog and their dogs stayed a very small size in result of that.

Though they have many health issues i still want this dog. I feel as if, if you are goign to buy a dog you need to take care of it and I will live up to that expectation and rule set. Many people do not know many of the facts I just stated in the previous paragraph. So the next time, one thinks about buying a yorkie do not ask for a teacup yorkie because you will come in with many issues, instead ask for a regular size yorkie that way it will be more eassier for you and the dog.

The Ipod Nano Evolution

Now I have been interested in Ipods since they came out in 2001. The evolution of this device has been ridiculous. When the U.S. was first introduced to the iPod everyone was so excited to get it. Though it was big, bulky, and had many errors like every new piece of technology presented to the public, but it held the music that we wanted. That was the nmain reason people were so pressed for it. It was also portable which benefited everybody.

A few years later Apple decided to upgrade the features and the physicla appearance fo the IPod. They created the IPod Touch, one of the most popular devices known in the 21st Century. They have many different Megabites. Range from 5 to 16MG. It can hold pictures and is able to connect to the internet. Also, you can text from your IPod to a cellular device with no problem. But, guess what bloggers? They have another version of the IPod. The IPod Nano Touch.

The Ipod Nano Touch has its own evolution dealing with the IPod Nano alone. It range from an 8GB to an 16GB. You can order your playlist setting in a way that fits you. It also has an built it FM radio. One can download pictures as well. It has almost the same features of any other IPod made but some are not able to go back to the playlist and pick songs due to how small it is. However, it has many features that can benefit a person who loves to be on the "go". I say you guys should check it out might be something you like. But I am just sitting back to see wat Apple comes out with next.

Egypt Has Gone Haywire!

Hey guys! So guess which country is next on the get rid of their ruler agenda? Egypt! They are fighting to throw out their ruler Hosni Mubarak. The protestors are not playing when it comes to their rights anymore. Mubarak has sent the government agaisnt his own people just like they did in Tunisia just a few weeks ago. Man I tell you governments are getting thrown let to right, its like a contagious disease.

Now these armies aren't going in their and peacefully escorting people back into their correct areas. No, no, no, they have all sorts of weapons, they have tear gas, water cannons, and rubber bullets. Yes, rubber bullets first time I heard of that too. But do you think that this is going to stop the Egyptians from going in,, I don't think so they set a police car on fire and threw it off a bridge just to make their point. they want change and they want it now! These people are protesting non stop. After mosque they at it again they are ready for change found in this article. Like Tunisia, they went far as isolation and imprisoning the female leader so they can stop the protesting but that did not work that made the fighters go harder to get their point across. But you will never guess what Egypt cut off to stop the protestors from the communications! THEY CUT OFF THE INTERNET! Can you believe this? Just imagine America with no internet access. I personally wpuld just die becuase internet is somethings serious our mean of communications especially with the young generation.

But I ain't going to lie cutting off the internet was smart. Their communications with other countries are shut down. That means they cannot get help from other areas such as the U.S. because ya know we are known for getting in other people business lol. people wonder if that will ever happen to the U.S. and the answer is uhh no we have too many ways of communication through the internet. But Egyptians cannot talk to us or any other countries for that matter to get their support. For example in this aritcle, they talk about the outrageous death of the internet. This is something that I hope other countires do not have to go through.

Now this is new they actually have the video of the country protest. When I saw this it blew my mind. They have all types of things getting thrown and shot at them. Those rubber bullets will be shown. They will also water cannons. This is new so beware it is not that bad so yea make sure you watch it. Stay tuned for my next post. LezB is out!

Blogging

I am Bria Greenwood. I like to text, shop, talk on the phone, and go out with my friends. I love to write poetry, sing, and listen to music. I bake to calm my nerves and i wish to become a pastry chef within the next 10 years.

Blogging is somethign has come along way. I hope to further my skills with blogging and finally finding a place I can share my thoughts with and common interests. I intend to talk about anything that crosses my mind at the time from same sex marriage to becoming a pastry chef. I want to talk about the new perception fo this generation because people are making the wrong assumption about us and it is not fair. The intimidating thing about blogging is that I won't get any comments or anything. I also am scared I wil not fullfill the 250 words requirements.
