Anti-Bullying

Bulling has been occurring for decades. Many people have ignored or have excused children behavior when it comes to this subject. Obama has decided to start an anti-bullying campaign to stop this type of behavior. In his conference he had in his first address to the situation he speaks on how he used to be bullied while he was in school due to his name and his ears. First lady Michelle Obama, stated the concerns of such behavior from a parents perspective.  They also address the parents who children committed suicide because of bullies. Many organizations have been formed to prevent these issues within the schools.

Another article stated that many homosexuals were being bullied due to their sexuality. The article shows the statistics of  the various forms of bullying that has occurred towards homosexuals. Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall, speaks upon the little action that is taken to prevent this type of bullying to continue in the schools. Many schools have not addressed this situation was due to Section 28 in the government policy to ban promotion of homosexuality actions in the school. However, this section was repealed in 2003. One of the many young men that committed suicide due to his sexual orientation was Justin Aaberg in Andover, Minn. He was 15 and found hanged after being victimized for the last time. However, the most famous cases of suicide was committed by Tyler Clementi, He was a freshman at Rutgers University. After being exposed of his sexuality through the leaking of a adult tape he jumped off the George Washington bridge on September 22, 2010.

Ezine Articles have provided all of the following statistics;  over 75% of high school students are bullied through the internet. 20% of students have admitted to being a bully or participating in similar activities. 100,00 of the bully victims have brought guns to school for protection. 28% of the gun holding population have seen/witness violence action in their own household.  Many homicides dealing with high school students occur due to the retaliation of being bullied.  The top 5 states that these statistics come from are New York, Illinois, California, Pennsylvania, and Washington. Obama is trying to find multiple methods and ways for all the percentages in this statistic goes down drastically. He is able to be a spokesperson/inspiration for people who are victims of this matter due to the fact that he is opening up and sharing his stories with the country.

A few ways that schools can prevent bullying period is for people to speak out against it teachers and students. Do not let it be watered down to horseplay. One way people can prevent gay bullying is by taking action as well. especially since Section 28 was repealed and gave homosexuals the same rights as heterosexuals.

Wikipedia

I read two articles about Wikipedia. One of the articles were pro the other was a con.

For the fist article was a pro. It focused more so on college students and professors at Lake Land. Many professors do not have a problem with Wikipedia because it is a start. However, they state that the students need to do further research. Many colleges still do not allow Wikipedia as a creditable source. Mattoon Lake Land.

The other article opposing Wikipedia continuously pulled out the biases of Wikipedia. It breaks down the different examples of the biases about the website. It even takes it back to the contributors and the way they handle the work on the site. It also towards the end give suggestions on how it should change its contributors and the way the network show now act.

I personally agree with the use of Wikipedia due to the fact that the term "wiki" alone mean quick so that mean that it is a start or a simple summary of the topic that one is interested on. It is the researches job to go deeper and use more than one source to get accurate information.

Response to Managing Social Network

The solution that best fits me with managing my social network is being on the phone. I actually did that during the 7 days of no Facebook. I do it a lot more now then i used to. Also texting helps me forget about social network websites because he people i text are the people I would go look on the statuses to see what they are doing. Removing the cell phone apps would no work. one because I do no know how to do that. But, I also do not want to. It makes my phone unique and just because it is on there does not mean I have to use it, that is where self control comes in. I believe the best solution for others is self control. Many people lack that as was shown in class when asked who went on Facebook. It takes time to gin full self control but it would help people with the addition. I do not believe that i have any addiction to any website. If I have an addiction it is to texting. I do not really get on websites unless its to play a game I probably will net year because all my close friends will be away. It isn't that interesting and it can also get people in a lot of drama. Especially with he/she say that is the downfall of this generation.

NO Facebook!

I do not think that not being able to get on Facebook for a week will be hard. I really do not get on there now. i will be able to go through with it and not panic about it. A lot of our classmates were really upset but it might be a good time for me to catch up with my school work since I am a senior we have limited days left to get our things in order. I can also get more connected with Twitter since that seems to be the hottest new thing. Plus i have  a friend stream app on my phone that lets me see what friends are doing on Facebook and Twitter so i will survive.
